BKR International awards $12K in student scholarships

BKR International has presented seven student scholarship awards, worth $12,000 in all, to honor global accounting students for their academic achievements.

Scholarship recipients are nominated by BKR member firms in each of the association's global designated regions — Europe, Middle East and Africa; the Americas; and Asia Pacific — before being reviewed and approved by the BKR Worldwide Board. The program aids students by helping with the cost of their degrees and obtaining a professional accounting credential in their country. The BKR International scholarship program has awarded more than $90,000 to 36 students across 20 countries since the program's inception in 2012.

“The BKR International scholarship program is funded through membership dollars, and it introduces these wonderful students to our firms and association. We love this connection to future accountants,” stated Manuel Rangel, Jr., chair of BKR Worldwide.

This year's scholarship recipients are:

  • Hiroko Kubo (nominated by Gumbiner Savett, Inc., Los Angeles) — BKRWorldwide Meeting
  • Jessica McGarry (nominated by Lohn Caulder, LLP, Vancouver, Canada) — BKR Americas Regional Meeting
  • Francisca Ribeiro, Daniel Santos,  Andreia Sousa, and Sofia Gonçalves (nominated by Esteves, Pinho & Associados, SROC, Lda, Porto, Portugal) — BKR Europe/Middle East/Africa Regional Meeting
  • Mansi Malde (nominated by T R Chadha & Co. LLP, New Delhi, India) — BKR Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting
