CBH Folds in Staff of Shuttering Firm

Regional CPA and business advisory firm Cherry Bekaert & Holland is adding 14 partners and 100 associates from Berenfeld Spritzer

Shechter & Sheer, a firm based in Coral Gables, Fla., that is liquidating.

According to the Tampa Bay Business Journal, the firm, founded in 1971, had been fighting a $160 million investor lawsuit stemming from disbarred attorney and Berenfeld client Scott Rothstein¹s $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme.

Berenfeld partners sent e-mails to professional contacts throughout South Florida late last week, saying the firm was filing for liquidation Richmond, Va.-based Cherry Bekaert already has a small office in Coral Gables and first entered the Miami market in 2008 via a merger with 25-partner firm McKean Paul Chrycy Fletcher & Co.

CBH ranked No. 28 on Accounting Today's 2010 Top 100 Firms list, with revenues of roughly $99 million.
