CPA.com, the American Institute of CPAs’ technology arm, has formed a strategic alliance with Vertex SMB to help CPA firms with sales tax compliance for their business clients.

Vertex SMB, a division of Vertex Inc., provides sales and use tax technology for small and midsize businesses. The deal with CPA.com will help CPA firms and their clients manage tax compliance obligations. Vertex SMB will become part of CPA.com’s Partner Solutions, a lineup of tools and services that CPA firms can offer clients.

“We know CPAs and their clients are facing increasing complexity related to calculating and remitting state sales taxes,” said CPA.com president and CEO Erik Asgeirsson in a statement. “To help firms successfully manage this complexity for their clients, we are launching a cloud-based tax compliance platform with Vertex SMB.”

Vertex SMB is a business division of Vertex Inc., which provides tax technology solutions to nearly half of the Fortune 1000. The Vertex SMB system runs on the same software that larger enterprises use, but it’s tailored for smaller companies and is sold under a pay-as-you-go pricing model.

“Our platform greatly simplifies tax calculation and remittance, and provides easy-to-read dashboards that give CPAs and their clients a detailed view of a business’ compliance process,” said Vertex SMB vice president and general manager David Henkin.
