Crowe Horwath LLP, Oak Brook, released the findings from its 2011 Comprehensive Financial Institution Compensation Survey, which indicates that the average salary increase for officers and non-officers of 280 financial institutions was 2.4 percent. The survey is now in its 30th year. In addition to the national survey, Crowe prepared regional compensation reports for the Midwest and Southeast, as well as state reports for Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey and Ohio. INDIANA

BKD LLP will hold its annual leadership conference, One Great Week 2011, in Indianapolis started Sept. 27. More than 700 partners and employees will attend the five-day event at the JW Marriott Indianapolis. Activities will include strategic planning, continuing professional education, networking opportunities and formal recognition of BKD's 2011 PRIDE Award winners. ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas and Super Bowl champion quarterback Joe Theismann are featured keynote speakers.

Plante & Moran, Southfield, has changed its name to Plante Moran, dropping its ampersand, which isn't compatible with current and emerging technologies and can't be used in a web address, the firm noted.

 

NEW YORK

St. Bonaventure University alumnus Eugene McQuade and his wife Peggy have committed $2 million to establish the McQuade Center for Accounting Excellence endowment within St. Bonaventure's School of Business. The endowment will provide scholarship aid to promising incoming accounting majors; funding to recruit, retain and support the work of dedicated faculty; and support for student programming, advisement and professional development. Additionally, the endowment will make possible an awards celebration to honor the achievements of students, young alumni and senior executives.

 

NORTH CAROLINA

Ohio-based SS&G has opened an office in Raleigh at 3737 Glenwood Ave., Suite 100. Henry Grzes, leader of the firm's International Tax Group, will serve as managing director of the office.

The Texas Society of CPAs announced the recipients of the 2010-11 TSCPA/AICPA Scholarships for Minority Accounting Students: Minhchau Nguyen, of the University of Houston, and James Henshall, of Texas A&M University. In addition, society member Brandon Wenzel, of the University of Texas, was named one of 10 recipients of the 2011-12 AICPA John L. Carey Scholarships.
