Freed Maxick Expands Social Media Marketing

Freed Maxick & Battaglia has hired PR strategist and communications professional Emily Alexandria Burns as the firm’s e-marketing and communications specialist.

Burns will help boost Freed Maxick's Web-based communications initiatives and embrace of social media tools to enhance community engagement, drive practice growth and recruit new employees. She will be responsible for integrating online marketing and public relations strategies into the firm's overall institutional and niche marketing and communications plans.

She will also be responsible for building and nurturing online communities via the firm's Twitter page, Facebook, LinkedIn accounts and other social media outlets. Freed Maxick is one of the accounting industry's leading firms leveraging social media to achieve strategic marketing objectives and recently gained national recognition as the first public accounting firm in the U.S. to launch an outdoor interactive digital "Twitter" billboard.

With experience in corporate communications, marketing, media and public relations, Burns possesses substantial knowledge on both the client and agency sides of the business and is experienced in the latest media tactics in DRTV, online and emerging media. Most recently, she served as communications manager for the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, where she helped the organization explore social media and digital tools, and supported the organization's business development, events and membership departments.

She is also a member of the Partnership's Buffalo Niagara 360 young professionals program, of which Freed Maxick is a founding member. She spent the early part of her career in New York City, where she served as corporate communications manager of ID Media, the largest direct response and digital media services company in the U.S. She also worked extensively in the fashion and beauty industries where she concentrated on public relations for brands including Avon, Christian Dior Couture, Givenchy, Jones New York, and Nine West.

"Emily brings a unique combination of communications, marketing and PR experience, along with an up-to-the minute perspective on what's going on in social media," said Eric Majchrzak, Freed Maxick & Battaglia's marketing/communications manager. "Her skills and experience combined with creative energy, ideas and a good connection to the community will help us further our marketing strategies and reach new goals within the industry and beyond. With her help, we plan to continue breaking new ground in the digital and online space."
