Grant Thornton Funds Marathon Runners

Grant Thornton is sponsoring 230 of its employees and partners from around the country who want to run in San Diego's Rock 'N' Roll Marathon, covering all of their travel, hotel and entrance fee costs.

More than 40 Grant Thornton offices will be participating, including offices in Boston, Chicago, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles and New York. The initiative is part of the accounting firm's effort to promote healthy lifestyles. Local offices of the firm have been offering their own running clubs in which employees can network, socialize and participate in local runs.

The Grant Thornton Running Club also provides employees with the opportunity to run a firm-designated marathon each year, with travel, hotel and race registration fees paid for by the firm.

"By supporting fitness and health among our employees, we are creating an environment where employees are not only encouraged to maintain good health, but are also providing tools to help them be wise consumers of healthcare," said Greg Pitzer, National Running Club champion and Grant Thornton's managing principal of business advisory services, in a statement.
