Heard the One About the Nude CPA?

Chestnut Ridge, N.Y. (Jan. 6, 2003) -- Rather than getting ready for the upcoming tax season, one New York CPA chose to ring in 2003 in a slightly different manner -- by offering a nude yoga class at a Key West, Fla. hotel.

CPA-turned-yoga instructor and author Bruce Van Horn, kicked off the new year with nude yoga classes at the Atlantic Shores Hotel in Key West, Fla.

"A lot of men don’t have the healthiest lifestyle. But you don’t sell men on health by giving them information, you have to make it fun and sexy," Van Horn said of the venture. "I try to use humor and shock a little. I sell wellness through the back door. I also believe that we need to be more open about our sexuality." However, Van Horn admitted, "It never got off the ground -- it rained."

Van Horn began his career in the accounting and taxation profession, working for Big Four firms KPMG and Price Waterhouse before forming his own firm. "I began practicing yoga about eight years ago, and I found it helpful in my battle with ulcerative colitis," he said. "It changed my life completely, and I realized needed to be on a different path."

Van Horn still holds a CPA license but sold his accounting practice two years ago to run his company, Yoga For Business (www.yogaforbusiness.com) full-time.
