Henry & Horne Acquires Local Firm

CPA and business advisory firm Henry & Horne has acquired the Phoenix-based  practice of Mazza, Spero, Hougham & Schultz, effective November 1.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Richard Schultz will be joining Henry & Horne as a partner, bringing the partner total at the Arizona regional firm to 16. Meanwhile, Dennis Mazza, Larry Spero and Robert Hougham will come aboard as partner emeritus. They will be located at Henry & Horne’s Scottsdale, location.

Henry & Horne ranked No. 11 in the Southwest in Accounting Today’s 2011 list of the Top 100 Firms, with revenues of $16.4 million.

"This was one of those mergers where everything lined up from day one," said Koltin Consulting Group CEO Allan D. Koltin, who advised both firms on the merger. "The cultures and strategies were identical and proves the point that some of the best strategic mergers can actually take place in one’s backyard vs. with an out-of-state firm. Henry & Horne picks up a superstar partner in Rick Schultz, as well as some exceptional talent and a great client base.”

Koltin’s relationship with Schultz goes back some 30 years when he worked under him as a first-year staff accountant with a large local firm in Milwaukee. He also consulted to Henry & Horne on its leadership succession initiative a couple years ago.
