Hitachi's XBRL Unit Introduces Excel Plug-In

Hitachi America Ltd. XBRL Business Unit announced the launch of its Xinba 2.0 Reader and Analyzer, a desktop-based Microsoft Excel add-in that gives users the capability to import, open and manipulate Extensible Business Reporting Language directly in the program.XBRL is a technology that tags financial information through disparate applications and carries it through the business reporting chain. Software that can actually manipulate the data into usable form is only just beginning to be introduced on a broad base.

Xinba can store the information locally, over a network or anywhere on the Internet and supports a number of Web services that allow end users to send requests and receive data provided by third-party data vendors Xinba also supports both GAAP and IFRS taxonomies.

Xinba 2.0 Reader and Analyzer is priced at $400, with an annual maintenance fee of $80; volume discounts are available. More details of the software’s capabilities, and a 30-day trial version -- with a plug-in to make use of XBRL-tagged filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission -- can be downloaded at www.hitachixbrl.com.

Separately, XBRL International is holding its 14th International Conference in Philadelphia starting today and running through Dec. 6. This year’s theme will focus on applications of the technology.
