Indiana CPA Develops Microsoft Word Add-ins

Brad Smith, an Indianapolis-based CPA, has created two add-in products for Microsoft Word that he is selling to help accountants and regular Word users employ formulas more easily in the word processor's tables.

Formula Builder for MS Word, priced at $45, features a wizard that automatically determines the correct cell address in a table and walks users through the steps of writing a formula. Special copy-and-paste features preserve relative cell references in formulas copied to other cells, as Microsoft Excel does.

Financial Reporting Toolkit-Accounting Edition is an upgraded version of Formula Builder. Priced at $65, it is targeted at CPAs and managers involved in financial reporting. The software includes a Table Link wizard for linking to data in any table in a Word document. Another added feature, the Financial Table Builder wizard, creates tables preformatted for financial data built to user specifications.

"The Accounting Edition includes tools to help you build financial tables and link the data to tables included in Word documents, but the primary benefit of the program is the ability to build formulas in Word," said Smith. These are his first products on the market.
