IRS grants $41 million for TCE and VITA

The IRS has awarded $41 million in Tax Counseling for the Elderly and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance grants to organizations for free federal tax preparation.

Grants went to 39 TCE and 309 VITA applicants this year, out of 413 applications requesting more $56 million in funding.

The TCE program provides free tax counseling and federal return prep to individuals 60 or older. The VITA program assists underserved communities, such as low-to-moderate-income individuals and taxpayers with limited English. IRS partners for the programs include nonprofits, faith-based organizations, community centers and large employers. The service provides tax law training, certification and oversight.

Information on applying for the TCE or VITA grants is on the TCE webpage or the VITA webpage.
