IRS Offers Info for Self-Employed

The Internal Revenue Service has recently added a page to its Web site for small businesses and the self-employed.

The Self-Employed Individuals Tax Center is a starting point for small businesses and self-employed taxpayers who file Schedule C with their Form 1040. The new page provides links to information on the most common issues new business owners face. The new page is part of the IRS's campaign to help educate new self-employed small-business owners about their federal tax responsibilities.

The page provides links to information about self-employment tax, starting and operating a business, the difference between independent contractors and employees, filing and paying taxes electronically, and tips for choosing a tax preparer.

Links are also available to small business tax workshops, videos, forms, publications and the Taxpayer Advocate Service.
