IRS Taps Petronchak as Chief of Staff

The Internal Revenue Service has appointed Kathy Petronchak as chief of staff succeeding incumbent Evelyn Petschek, who will depart the service effective June 7.

As chief of staff, Petronchak will assist IRS Commissioner Mark Everson in overseeing the performance of IRS operations and planning as well as strategic planning for various IRS programs.

Petronchak was appointed to her current position as director of pre-filing and technical guidance for the IRS' large and mid-size business unit in June 2004. In that post her duties include developing, directing and implementing tax shelter, pre-filing and technical field assistance programs.

She also shares responsibility for coordinating the LMSB Division's program activities with the IRS' legislative affairs unit chief counsel and the Treasury.

She joined the IRS in 1979 as a revenue agent in the Richmond, Va., office.
