The Internal Revenue Service is cautioning tax preparers that they are prime targets for identity thieves who are looking for data to use when filing fraudulent tax returns.
On a recently updated page on its Web site, the IRS is recommending that tax preparers create a security plan. Publication 4557, Safeguarding Taxpayer Data, offers many helpful suggestions including a check list, the IRS noted.
