Tostevin accountancy joins PMB Helin Donovan

Details: Tostevin Accountancy Inc. has merged with PMB Helin Donovan Consultants & CPAs. As part of the PMB team, Tostevin will maintain its office in Monterey, Calif., and will operate under the PMB Helin Donovan name. The combined firm intends to provide international tax, accounting, auditing, financial reporting, information technology and advisory services to its clients.

 

ILLINOIS

BDO adds networking forum

Details: Top 100 Firm BDO USA LLP has expanded its middle-market presence with the addition of Business Forums International. Previously a subsidiary of Houlihan Lokey, BFI is a professional networking forum for trusted professional advisors who work with closely held businesses and publicly traded companies.

Wipfli adds Condon Group, and Regulatory Compliance Associates

Details: Wipfli LLP has added the partners and associates of Tinley Park, Ill.-based The Condon Group Ltd. to the firm. The Condon Group serves high-net-worth individuals and privately held companies. The firm primarily focuses on manufacturing, construction and real estate companies.

In addition, Wipfli has added the Chicago-based practice of Regulatory Compliance Associates Inc. The group will join Wipfli's Oak Brook office and will work with the firm's clients as members of Wipfli's financial institutions practice, which currently serves over 600 financial institutions throughout the Midwest.

Mowery & Schoenfeld merges with Wolowicki & Associates

Details: Mowery & Schoenfeld has merged with Wolowicki & Associates of Schaumburg, Ill. The newly added firm will operate under the Mowery & Schoenfeld name. Wolowicki & Associates has since relocated to Mowery & Schoenfeld's offices in Lincolnshire, Ill.

 

INDIANA

McGuire Sponsel adds consulting practice

Details: McGuire Sponsel has merged with the consulting firm BT ProjectPoint. The new addition will assist organizations to secure project financing, provide swap and debt advisory services, and negotiate and secure economic incentives. Douglass Dalton and Brian Wahl, who are principals at the firm, will oversee the firm's financing and economic incentives practice.

 

MASSACHUSETTS

Abrams Little-Gill Loberfeld acquires Andrew Freedman's tax practice

Details: Abrams Little-Gill Loberfeld PC has acquired the accounting and tax practice of Andrew M. Freedman, CPA. Abrams Little-Gill's director, Kristin Kelley, will lead the services transition at the firm's 1330 Boylston Street office in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

BlumShapiro has merged with Friedman, Suvalle & Salomon

Details: Top 100 Firm BlumShapiro has combined with Newton, Mass.-based Friedman, Suvalle & Salomon PC. The merger, which closed on Jan. 1, 2014, has allowed BlumShapiro to expand and strengthens its position as a leading firm in the region. Friedman, Suvalle & Salomon will take on the BlumShapiro name and maintain its office in Newton.

Braver merges into Marcum

Details: Top 100 Firm Marcum LLP has added three divisions of Braver PC to its roster. Marcum picked up the accounting division, business strategies and valuation services from Braver, a leading Massachusetts firm.

According to a Marcum spokeswoman, Braver's two remaining divisions, Braver wealth management and technology solutions, will operate independently under the Braver name. Braver has 14 partners and more than 100 staff who have since joined Marcum.

CliftonLarsonAllen acquires Bankers Advisory

Details: Top 100 Firm CliftonLarsonAllen has acquired Bankers Advisory Inc. The Belmont-based consulting firm works with mortgage institutions in regulatory compliance and quality control. Bankers Advisory comes with 35 professionals, including president Anna DeSimone, who founded the firm in 1986.

 

MICHIGAN

Yeo & Yeo merges with Hungerford & Co.

Details: Yeo & Yeo and Hungerford & Co. of Southgate, Mich. have agreed to merge. The combined firm will operate under the Yeo & Yeo name and will give the firm the opportunity to extend its reach in the Southeast Michigan region. The merger is expected to add approximately $2.4 million in revenue to Yeo & Yeo annually. The firm reported that it generated more than $30 million in annual revenues for 2013.

 

NEW JERSEY

Kreinces Rollins & Shanker acquires Robert Samsel

Details: Kreinces Rollins & Shanker LLC has reached an agreement to acquire the tax practice of Robert A. Samsel LLC of Lodi, N.J. Robert Samsel specializes in tax planning and preparation for corporate and individual clients.

Samsel will be joining KRS at its new offices in the Atrium Building on Route 4 East in Paramus, N.J.

 

NEW YORK

Brock, Schechter & Polakoff acquires two

Details: Brock, Schechter & Polakoff LLP has added Gould & Swanson PC and John P. Whitty PC to its firm. Gould & Swanson has been around for 45 years, and John P. Whitty for 23 years. William Swierat, John Whitty and seven of their employees will be joining Brock, Schechter & Polakoff.

Insero & Co. acquires Marquise Business Solutions

Details: Insero & Co. has acquired the Rochester, N.Y.-based Marquise Business Solutions LLC. The acquisition is part of the firm's initiative to expand its small-business practice.

Marquise, which was founded in 2007, specializes in accounting, finance and strategic business consulting for start-ups and small to midsized businesses. Paul LeFrois, who is the former managing member of Marquise, will continue to provide these services as part of Insero's Small Business Group.

O'Connor Davies and Mersel, Klein & Co. merge

Details: Top 100 Firm O'Connor Davies and Mersel, Klein & Co. have agreed to merge. The combined firm is operating under the O'Connor Davies name. Partners Kenneth Mersel and Steven Klein, along with their staff members, have relocated to O'Connor Davies' New York office.

 

PENNSYLVANIA

BDO snaps up Alpern Rosenthal

Details: Top 100 Firm BDO USA has branched out into the Pittsburgh market with the acquisition of Alpern Rosenthal. The new addition comes with 250 partners and staff who are also located in the Philadelphia and South Florida markets. "Alpern Rosenthal's prominent position and deep community ties provides us with an ideal entry point into the Pittsburgh market," BDO's CEO Wayne Berson said in a statement. The firm has announced seven transactions in the last 13 months, including Mikunda, Cottrell & Co., Moquist Thorvilson Kaufmann and the banking practice of ParenteBeard in June. "Pound for pound, Alpern was as good as any firm in Western Pennsylvania and BDO was expanding in the state faster than any other firm in the country," said Allan Koltin, CEO of Koltin Consulting Group, who has advised BDO on previous deals.

 

TEXAS

DaVee CPA and salmon sims Thomas & associates merge

Details: Salmon Sims Thomas & Associates has agreed to merge with DaVee CPA. Rebecca DaVee, partner and founder of the firm, and her staff of four will help Salmon Simms Thomas to expand throughout Texas.

GBH and Prather Kalman merge

Details: GBH CPAs PC and Prather Kalman have merged their practices under the GBH name. The combined firm will have about 40 employees. The new firm offers audit, tax, advisory and valuation services, including ESOPs, to public and private companies in the biotech, energy, health care, manufacturing, mining, nonprofit, and technology markets.

Nicholas Montgomery and Travis Wolff merge

Details: Nicholas Montgomery LLP and Travis Wolff LLP have agreed to merge. Terms of the deal were undisclosed. The combination increased the staff of the two Dallas-based firms to more than 103, which includes six partners.

Nicholas Montgomery, which was founded in 1987 by Kenneth Nicolas and Samuel Montgomery, will take on the Travis Wolff name and will move into the firm's Tollway Plaza and the Dallas North Tollway locations.
