MSCPA president signs 'Diversity and Inclusion Pledge'

Massachusetts Society of CPAs president and CEO Amy Pitter has signed the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion Pledge, the MSCPA said Monday.

CEO Action represents the largest CEO-driven business commitment for promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The pledge includes taking steps to make "workplaces trusting places to have complex, and sometimes difficult, conversations about diversity and inclusion" and making a concentrated effort to "implement and expand unconscious bias education."

The signing of the pledge coincides with the MSCPA’s Year of Diversity and Inclusion, wherein the organization will offer programs and resources over the next year that "promote diversity and inclusion in the accounting industry in Massachusetts ... developed as part of the Society’s ongoing advocacy efforts to advance the profession and grow the accounting pipeline."

“Our priority is to help our members, along with their firms and companies, succeed,” stated Pitter. “There is evidence that businesses that are more diverse do better financially. ... However, building a more diverse workforce is not simple; it involves an intentional, dedicated effort to not only attract people from underrepresented populations, but to keep them in the profession. ... Our goal is to be a conduit between CEO Action and our member firms, especially our smaller firms, making resources available to firms of all sizes. We are excited to work with them to help build a diverse workforce where accounting firms, and their staff, can thrive.”
