PCAOB Announces '07 Small Business Forums

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board will continue its forums on auditing in the small business environment throughout 2007.

The forums, which began in late 2004, are designed to help share important information concerning the PCAOB with registered public accounting firms and public companies operating in the small business community. The PCAOB began a pilot program of small business forums in November 2004 and continued the sessions in 2005 and 2006. The forums have enabled board members and staff to meet with more than 1,600 representatives of small registered public accounting firms and small public companies to share insight to the work of the PCAOB, including the inspections process and the impact of new auditing standards.

During the 2006 series, small registered public accounting firms will be invited to attend a one-day session, where attendees will have the chance to earn continuing professional education credits. In addition, in three of these cities (one less than last year), directors and financial executive officers of small public companies will be invited to participate in a separate event to be held the following day to address PCAOB issues affecting smaller public companies.

The events are all free, though pre-registration is required. The 2007 schedule is:

  • Santa Monica, Calif. -- Jan. 23
  • Houston -- April 23
  • Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- June 1
  • San Francisco -- June 27 and 28
  • Atlanta -- Sept. 10 and 11
  • New York -- Oct. 22 and 23
  • Chicago -- Nov. 9
  • Washington -- A date in December yet to be determined
