David Vaudt was presented with the 2014 William H. Van Rensselaer Public Service Award. Established in 1988, the Van Rensselaer Award recognizes individuals who have led the development or improvement of Boards of Accountancy programs, or influenced the passage of rules or statutes to improve accountancy regulations and laws, with the goal of protecting the public.

FLORIDA

Darren Hubay has joined CBIZ as a tax associate at the Tampa Bay office of CBIZ MHM LLC. Hubay holds his Bachelors in Science in Accountancy from the University of South Florida. He previously worked as a tax staff with Arndt and Associates in St. Petersburg. Jennifer Heckner joined the firm as a marketing specialist in the firm’s Tampa Bay office.

MARYLAND

Diane Brewer a CPA at HeimLantz has been nominated as an honoree for the Accountant Advocate of the Year award by The Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce.

MASSACHUSETTS

Nicholas Brodeur has joined Shepherd & Goldstein LLP’s Worcester location in the role of Team Accountant. As a team accountant, Brodeur will be responsible for assisting with client account responsibilities by providing tax, accounting and audit compliance services for Shepherd & Goldstein’s corporate and individual clients.

Richard Isserman of New York, N.Y., is the recipient of the 2014 NASBA Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated unswerving commitment and dedication to enhancing the mission of NASBA. … Dannible & McKee LLP audit partner Victor Vaccaro was a presenter at the Risk Management Association’s Empire Chapter 2014 Fall Conference on Nov. 13, 2014 at the Genesee Grande Hotel in Syracuse, NY. Vaccaro, an Empire Chapter board member, presented to nearly 100 attendees from local financial institutions on the importance of loan covenants and their impact on annual financial statements. Tax partner Joseph Hardick recently gave a presentation at a state-wide construction industry conference, titled, “Federal Tax Update for the Construction Industry.” The Construction Contractors Conference, organized by the Foundation for Accounting Education of the New York State Society of CPAs, was held on October 22, 2014 in New York City. The theme of the conference was “Increase Profitability and Minimize Tax Liability” and helped provide general accounting information and tips to those in the construction industry. Nick Barnes has joined the firm’s Tax Department. Barnes received his MBA from Arizona State University and his MS in Accounting from Seton Hall University. ... Elana Margulies has joined the Asset Management Group in EisnerAmper LLP’s Financial Services practice. In her role, Margulies, a well-known alternative finance industry reporter and writer, will concentrate on developing articles, opinion pieces and original research designed to help illuminate the most challenging issues confronting fund managers and executives.

SOUTH CAROLINA

Chris Halkowitz was promoted to senior manager on the Assurance and Advisory Services team at Scott and Company LLC. Charles Goessel was promoted to a manager. Kelly Damiano, Chelsea Shoolbred and Sam Wheeler were promoted to a senior accountant.

WASHINGTON D.C.

Douglas O’Donnell has been selected as the Deputy Commissioner (International) in the Large Business and International Division. As the Deputy Commissioner (International), he will be responsible for planning, developing, directing and implementing a comprehensive service wide tax administration program that enhances compliance with international tax laws, ensures consistency in taxpayer treatment, continuously improves systems and processes and effectively allocates resources to meet service wide international tax administration priorities. Prior to accepting this position, Doug served as the Assistant Deputy Commissioner (International) overseeing many aspects of treaty administration.
