For his services to the entertainment industry, the late Bob Philpott has been named Entertainment Accountant of the Year by the California Society of CPAs and CalCPA Education Foundation. The award was presented to Philpott’s son, Aaron, at the 2015 Entertainment Industry Conference held today at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. Jeremy Dillard has joined SingerLewak, LLP as a partner in their Woodland Hills office where he’ll focus on audits and reviews of private companies. Dillard also currently serves on the AICPA Accounting and Review Services Committee, which issues the professional standards for review and compilation engagements. Jeff Malo will join Andersen Tax as a managing director in the firm’s U.S. National Tax office where he will focus on federal and state research credits. He has over 15 years of experience in both tax and government service. Prior to Andersen Tax, Malo was a Client Tax Services Partner at WTP Advisors where he was the leader of the Research Credit and Interest and Penalty Advisory practices.
Christopher Belknap has been promoted from senior tax manager to tax principal at Porter Keadle Moore in Atlanta.

Wendy Nyland has been elected president of the Southwestern Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants for the 2015-16 fiscal year. Nyland is a manager with Clay & Gascoine LLC in Indiana and a member of PICPA’s Southwestern Chapter Emerging CPAs Committee and is an elected member of the statewide Professional Ethics Committee. John Swirsding has joined Marcum LLP as an Assurance Services Partner in the firm’s Philadelphia office.

Baker Tilly International Board of Directors has unanimously voted Ted Verkade as chief executive officer and president. Verkade will succeed Geoff Barnes who will retire from that role in June 2016.
Carlos Otal has been named managing partner of Grant Thornton LLP in its Global Public Sector. Currently, Otal serves as managing partner for Grant Thornton’s GPS Financial Management Advisory and Audit Services, where he has led the growth of the firm’s financial management consulting and assurance offerings to federal, state, local and international governments. Otal succeeds Srikant Sastry, who became the national managing principal of Grant Thornton’s Advisory Services earlier this year. In his new role, Otal will serve on the firm’s National Leadership Team.

Brad Weckwerth has been promoted to shareholder at Vrakas CPAs + Advisors. Weckwerth joined Vrakas in 2002 after graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Eau-Claire. As a member of the assurance and accounting department, Weckwerth works primarily with closely-held, for-profit companies, including private equity and ESOP owned companies, across a variety of industries including manufacturing, construction, leasing and distribution.
