CalCPA presented Kim Le, CPA, CIA, with its Trailblazer Award, which recognizes an individual with a story so inspiring, it deserves its own category. The founder and CEO of A2Q2 in Redwood City, Le is a Vietnam refugee who grew up in Minnesota. Her firm's services include Sarbanes-Oxley compliance initiatives, internal audits and mergers, and acquisitions due diligence and integration. Three women received the Experience Leader Award: Jennifer Farr, CPA, shareholder and lead managing director at CBIZ & Mayer Hoffman McCann P.C. in Irvine; Bertha Minnihan, CPA, a partner with and national practice leader in employee benefit plans for Moss Adams LLP in San Francisco; and Connie Perez, CPA, a partner with Brown Armstrong Accountancy Corp. in Pasadena.

MISSOURI

Bruce Welikson has joined RubinBrown, as a tax manager. Welikson specializes in low-income housing tax credits, historic rehabilitation tax credits, new markets tax credits, and renewable energy tax credits. With more than two decades of experience in the accounting industry, Welikson previously worked as director of taxes for Schnuck Markets.

NEW JERSEY

George Charne a principal in charge of employee benefits audit services for Hunter Group CPA LLC, was recently elected as treasurer of the Bergen County Workforce Investment Board. He also serves on the Executive Board’s One-Stop Committee. The Bergen County Workforce Investment Board is a local, business-led Board of Directors composed of private- and public-sector leaders from business, education, labor, community and faith-based organizations and government. … Jennifer DeMaria has been elected as president of the Board of the Surety Association of New Jersey. DeMaria is a senior manager in the Eatontown, NJ office of CohnReznick LLP.

Rick Small, most recently senior vice president of Enterprise-Wide Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Corruption and International Regulatory Compliance for American Express, has joined the professional services of EY’s Financial Services Organization as Executive Director. … Jill Jacobs has joined Friedman LLP as chief marketing officer. Prior to joining Friedman, Jacobs was the CMO and marketing director at Citrin Cooperman. … Lawrence Statsky, CPA, has been named partner at Raich Ende & Malter. Statsky has over 30 years of public and private accounting experience; working with financial services clients. Most recently, Statsky was the chief administrative officer of a $24 billion, multi-strategy hedge fund based in New York City. He was responsible for various functions within the organization, including accounting, operations, tax, and human resources. … Paula Loop will lead PwC’s Center for Board Governance and PwC’s Investor Resource Institute, effective July 1. She will succeed Mary Ann Cloyd and Kayla Gillan, leaders of the Center for Board Governance and PwC’s Investor Resource Institute, respectively. … Anchin, Block & Anchin LLP has added Russell Shinsky and Gregory Wank to the Executive Committee, as of May 1, 2015. Shinsky is an accounting and advisory partner at Anchin. He is also the firm’s audit practice coordinator where he focuses on the efficiency and technical proficiency of Anchin’s attest practice.

NORTH DAKOTA

Fifteen staff members were accepted into the partnership throughout the firms of Eide Bailly LLP. This brings the total number of partners to 230. The new partners/principals are: Tyler Bernier manages and supervises health system, hospital, senior living and other health care-related audits in urban and rural areas. Aaron Clayton, Michael Criddle, Stacy Erdmann, Derek Flanagan is a partner, Nathan Gonseth, Kayce Halley, Brenda Leibfried, Renee Malewski, Jason Olson, Joe Pope, Justin Reilly, Clay Waller and Chad Wilsie are the newest partners in the firm. Sandi Piatz is the newest principal at the firm.

OHIO

Mark Ross has been appointed managing partner of the professional service firm of PwC in the Lake Erie market. Ross brings more than 28 years of experience to the role and will be responsible for leading more than 1,000 professionals in delivering audit, tax and advisory services to clients in the firm's Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, NY, and Rochester, NY offices.

PENNSYLVANIA

Steven Fisher has been named managing partner of Reinsel Kuntz Lesher LLP’s Reading office. He succeeds Charles Fabian, who remains a partner in the firm’s tax services group.

TEXAS

Kaci Howell has joined Weaver as a director in the firm’s Houston office.

WISCONSIN

Steve Hyde has joined Schenck SC as chief information officer and director of technology services. He will provide strategic direction and oversight for Schenck’s internal IT support group. As a member of Schenck’s Business Optimization team, Hyde will also provide technology and systems integration consulting to clients. He combines his technical expertise with an operational approach to achieve business improvement.
