Arizona

Henry & Horne PLC, Tempe, announced that Don Bays has been appointed by Arizona Governor Jane Hull to the Arizona State Board of Accountancy. Bays will serve his five-year term along with four other CPAs and two public members. Bays is an associate director of Henry & Horne’s business valuation and litigation services group with 34 years’ experience in public and private accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Arizona Society of CPAs. He is also past president of the Arizona Society of CPAs and recently completed his fifteenth year as editor of the Accountancy Board’s newsletter.

Colorado

Teresa Berryman has been named vice chancellor for administration and finance at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. The University of Colorado Board of Regents approved the appointment. Berryman began her career with CU in 1979 as a student, earning a bachelor’s degree in business in 1981 and a CPA in 1987. She has since served as accountant, internal auditor, director of internal audit and associate vice chancellor for finance and business. She has served as interim vice chancellor of administration and finance since March 2002, when Wayne Henderson retired. Berryman manages an annual budget of more than $460 million.

Florida

Christopher M. Davis joined Carter, Belcourt & Atkinson PA, CPAs, Lakeland, as a staff accountant. Davis earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Florida Southern College. He has completed the 5th year CPA requirements and will sit for the CPA exam in November. Before coming to CBA, Davis worked in the MIS division of the Polk County Board of County Commissioners. Alisha Slater also joined CBA as a staff accountant. Slater graduated from Florida Southern College with a bachelor of science degree in accounting in 2002. Previously, she interned and worked part-time for CBA while finishing her degree. Also at CBA, Linda D. Stephens, a senior accountant, has been elected to the board of directors of Explorations V Children’s Museum. Stephens received her bachelor of science degree in business, with a concentration in accountancy, from the University of South Florida. She is pursuing her masters of business administration from Florida Southern College. Stephens is a member of the Florida Institute of CPAs. ... Bradley N. McIver, of Goldstein Lewin & Co., CPAs and Consultants, Boca Raton, has recently been awarded the Accredited in Business Valuation designation by the American Institute of CPAs. To obtain this designation, McIver provided evidence of substantial experience and expertise in business valuation and passed a comprehensive 8-hour examination that demonstrated his understanding of business valuation, professional and regulatory standards and valuation methods, as well as his ability to prepare a written report. CPAs must recertify their accreditation every three years. At Goldstein Lewin & Co., McIver performs business valuations and supervises tax and audit projects. He applies techniques to the performance of due diligence engagements, forensic accounting and litigation consulting.

Georgia

The shareholders of Tauber & Balser PC, Atlanta, announced that Sheldon D. Zimmerman joined the firm as director of special services. Zimmerman has over 30 years’ experience including having served as an audit partner of a Big Eight accounting firm and as chief financial officer for a national specialty retail chain. Sheldon is experienced in mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, lender negotiations and bankruptcy matters. He is also experienced with working with retail/distribution companies of all sizes relating to their financial, operational and strategic needs.

Illinois

Glenn Ingram & Co. Ltd, Chicago, announced that James C. Gavin recently joined the firm as audit supervisor and will be responsible for overseeing and supervising audit staff and interfacing with partners on client and staff issues. He brings to the firm extensive experience in supervising audit engagements and serving as CFO for a multimillion-dollar medical society, as well as for several large medical and technology-related associations while at Smith Bucklin & Associates. Gavin is a member of the American Society for Association Executives and the Association Forum of Chicagoland.

Iowa

The Iowa Society of CPAs announced the following: Jennifer J. Kentucky

Maryland

Grabush, Newman & Co. PA, Baltimore, announced the promotion of D. Ellen Tiano to director of the accounting and auditing department. Tiano received her bachelor of science in accounting from the University of Maryland in June 1975. She then went on to receive her masters in business administration from Loyola College in 1986. She has been associated with Grabush, Newman & Co. since 1987. In addition to counseling clients in matters such as cost and sales analysis and internal control reinforcement, Tiano will now oversee all of the accounting and auditing department functions. She manages and directs audits, ensuring compliance with accounting, governmental and auditing standards. Also at Grabush, Newman & Co., Matthew R. Brady was promoted to semi-senior accountant. Brady is a 2001 graduate of Towson University with a bachelors of science in accounting. Rebecca Li has also been promoted to semi-senior accountant in the accounting and auditing department. Li, a native of China and now an Owings Mills resident, holds a master of arts in interpretation and translation, a bachelor of arts in english and is a 2001 graduate of the University of Baltimore with a 4.0 GPA master of science in accounting. Donna Faye Burke has joined the accounting and auditing department as a paraprofessional in the dental practice management group. She will assist in accounting functions for over 120 dental practices in the Baltimore/Washington area, Finally, Grabush, Newman & Co. has also added 2 interns to it growing staff. Lawrence M. Jackson and Matthew Q. Keefer have joined the accounting and auditing department. Both Jackson and Keefer are Towson University students. ... KAWG&F, PA, Towson, announced Tracy L. Miller-Reimschussel was promoted to an in-charge accountant with the firm. Miller-Reimschussel graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor of science in accounting. ... Klausner Dubinsky + Associates PC, Bethesda, announced that Emily C. Gratzer has joined the firm. Gratzer is a graduate from George Mason University and received a bachelor of science in accounting. She has extensive experience in marketing public as well as nonprofit products and services. New Jersey

Untracht Early & Associates LLC, Florham Park, announced that Michael P. Henke has joined the accounting staff. Henke holds a bachelor of science in business administration from Fordham University’s Rose Hill College of Business. Prior to joining UE&A, he was a staff audit assistant for a Big Five accounting firm in New York. Also at UE&A, Avi Strauss joined the accounting staff. Strauss graduated with a bachelors of business administration in marketing from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is presently completing a bachelors of science in accounting at William Paterson University. Strauss is also a student member of the New Jersey Society of CPAs. Prior to joining UE&A, he worked in the private sector as an analyst for Credit Suisse First Boston Co.

Ohio

The American Woman’s Society of CPAs, Dayton, announced that the Society’s award of Educator of the Year was presented to Dr. Deborah Turner. Dr. Turner is an associate professor in the DuPress College of Management at Georgia Institute of Technology. A two-time recipient of the AWSCPA Literary Award, Dr. Tuner has been published numerous times in professional journals, books and conferences. She serves Georgia Tech in many capacities, including faculty mentor, faculty advisor, committee chair and committee member and serves the profession as a member, committee chair or officer of several organizations, including the American Accounting Association, AWSCPA and the Financial Executives Institute. She is also a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Georgia Society of CPAs. Also, the AWSCPA announced the election of Barbara Bock Guerra to the position of national president for the 2002-2003 fiscal year. Guerra is a program manager in the audit services department at Edison International in Irvine, Calif. Her areas of expertise are utilities and contract auditing. Prior to joining Edison in 1992, Guerra worked in public accounting for 18 years, achieving partner status in two firms. She received her masters of business administration from Morehead State University in 1977. Guerra is both a CPA and a Certified Internal Auditor.

Pennsylvania

Malin, Bergquist & Co. LLP, North Hills, hired William Adamiak as a supervisor, Marc Dudas as a staff accountant and Leah Eggers as director of human resources.

Utah

RGL Forensic Accountants and Consultants, Salt Lake City, announced that Joseph L. Leauanae hs been named an Accredited Senior Appraiser by the American Society of Appraisers. Leauanae joins RGL’s Derk Rasmussen as only the second CPA in the state of Utah to have earned both the ASA from the American Society of Appraisers, as well as the Accredited in Business Valuation designation from the American Institute of CPAs.

Virginia

Argy, Wiltse & Robinson PC, McLean, announced the addition of Sharon Berman, tax senior manager, to their firm. Berman will provide income tax and financial planning services to high-net worth individuals and closely held businesses. Prior to joining AWR, Berman was a senior tax manager with Arthur Andersen’s private client services group. Berman also worked with Arnold & Porter as a tax and financial planning specialist. Also, Rebecca Rohe, a seasoned tax manager, joined AWR, providing income tax and financial planning services. Rohe was previously with Arthur Andersen’s private client services group as well.

Eugene A. Breslow and Allen S. Gray announced the formation of Sikich Corporate Finance LLC, Aurora, a unique merger and acquisition consulting firm serving middle-market business owners in the Midwest. Breslow and Gray both owned middle-market companies during their careers. ... John R. Waters & Co., Chicago, recently became a member of CPASNET.COM and the exclusive member firm in the State of Illinois.

Maryland

S. Vincent Crescenzi, president and managing partner of Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell PC, Bethesda, recently announced the addition of residential and commercial mortgage services to the current program offerings of CBM Financial Services LLC. ... Snyder, Cohn, Collyer, Hamilton & Associates PC, Bethesda, commemorated Stanley Snyder’s 50th anniversary with the firm. Over 200 well wishers attended the event where managing partner, Eddie Snyder, presented Stanley with a significant donation from the firm to the MS Walk, a cause Stanley has dedicated much of his time and energy to over the years. Massachusetts

New York

Grassi & Co., CPAs, PC, Lake Success, merged with New York-based Feldman, Sherb & Co. PC. The merger provides an additional boost to the Long Island-based firm that has been nationally recognized for its exponential growth over the last few years.

Texas

The Houston Chapter Texas Society of CPAs broke $1 million in total cumulative donations to Make-A-Wish Foundation of the the Texas Gulf Coast and are now working on their next million. This year’s 13th annual Golf Classic and Auction will be Oct. 21, 2002 at Sweetwater Country Club.
