Sage North America has officially released Sage One Accountant Edition, an accountant-centric version of its online accounting software for small businesses and the first from the publisher designed specifically for accountants.

The Accountant Edition is free for accountants to use and will feature regular updates at least two times per month. Key features of the product include complimentary account access for the entire firm; unlimited user access and support; opportunities to win new clients, including client discounts; reduced data entry due to bank integration; and one login access to all Sage One clients.

The latest effort marks the first in a larger plan for Sage North America to offer more products specifically designed for accountants, an initiative overseen by its new Sage Accountant Solution business. The unit is overseen by Jennifer Warawa who was recently named vice president and general manager of the group.

“We realized it was time for us to start delivering more technology specifically for accountants, we always had really great relationships with the profession but they need tools they can use in the firm and working with their clients,” said Warawa. “When we designed [Sage One Accountant Edition] we asked businesses what’s important to them working with accountants and the number one thing was their problem solving ability which is different than in the past.

We also did the same with firms; we asked what’s most important to clients when working with them and they said price, fees, cost and affordability were at the top over personal chemistry. We worked all of that into this product.”

Warawa also noted that the Accountant Edition was designed to help facilitate relationships with a small or startup business “that we know a CPA can help with” and that more accountant and CPA-specific products would be coming from Sage by next summer.
