Sales Tax Institute names 2019 'Sales Tax Nerd' winner

The Sales Tax Institute has announced that Cherie Julius, a senior tax manager at Uline Inc., is the recipient of its 2019 Sales Tax Nerd Award.

The inaugural award recognizes sales tax professionals who demonstrate a special passion for the sales tax field by being a self-proclaimed “sales tax nerd.”

Cherie’s activities outside of her job include an Indirect Tax Executive Forum she created in 2015, which brings together tax professionals in the Chicago-Milwaukee area to collaborate on important sales tax issues. Cherie also shares her sales tax expertise with her local community via a local business alliance board and by serving as a board director for her local symphony association.

“I am so excited to be named the 2019 Sales Tax Nerd. You truly couldn’t have found a bigger nerd than me!” stated Cherie. “All joking aside, I am quite honored to be recognized as a leader in this profession. It has been an absolute honor to be considered alongside the other finalists.”

“In looking for our first Sales Tax Nerd Award winner, we wanted to recognize a sales tax professional that not only demonstrates their personal passion for working in the sales tax field, but one that embraces the concept of building a community of sales tax professionals,” said Diane Yetter, founder of the Sales Tax Institute, in a statement. “This award is a testament to Cherie’s initiative in starting the Indirect Tax Executive Forum and to paying it forward by creating a safe environment for corporate sales tax professionals to network and support each other.”

Cherie will receive a scholarship to attend a Sales Tax Institute training course of her choosing, as well as a prize package of sales tax merchandise.

  • Kelly Brown, tax advisor, Yeo & Yeo CPAs & Business Consultants
  • Tonya Grayson, senior indirect tax manager, Technicolor
