SEC Names Corporate Finance Head

The Securities and Exchange Commission named John W. White to the post of director of the regulator's division of corporate finance.

White, 58, who succeeds Alan Beller in the post, will come aboard the agency March 20. He is currently a partner at the law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore, where he has spent the last 25 years.

Beller is returning to the private sector.

In January, White was named to the Standing Advisory Group of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, a position he will resign to take the SEC post.

During his tenure at Cravath, White served in a number of management roles, including as head of the firm's corporate department, as recruiting partner, as managing partner, and as managing partner-finance.
