SEC Updates Edgar Filer Manual

The Securities and Exchange Commission has released an updated manual for companies filing financial reports in the SEC’s Edgar online system.

The updated Edgar Filer Manual, along with a full list of edits, can be found at http://www.sec.gov/info/edgar/edmanuals.htm.

Volume I of the manual was revised to support the new EdgarLink Online Application, which was introduced in November 2010, allowing filers to submit EdgarLink submission form types online, without the use of the offline EdgarLink Tool. To create filer-constructed submission without the use of the EdgarLink Online Application, filers can follow the EdgarLink Online XML Technical Specification, available from the Information for Edgar Filers web page (http://www.sec.gov/info/edgar.shtml).

The retirement of the offline EdgarLink tool was originally scheduled to be completed by Monday, Aug. 1, 2011. The SEC said it has decided to postpone the retirement to give filers and software developers more time to get accustomed to the new EdgarLink Online Application. See the EdgarLink Retirement Notice for more information.

The staff of the SEC’s Office of Interactive Disclosure has also updated its page of frequently asked questions, located at http://www.sec.gov/spotlight/xbrl/staff-interps.shtml.

The SEC staff can be contacted with questions at Ask-OID@sec.gov or (202) 551-5494.
