Surgent releases mobile study app

Surgent Accounting & Financial Education announced the launch of a new mobile app, dubbed Study Companion, to teach CPA Exam candidates in small “microbursts” of study time on their smartphones.

The app, available for free on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play store, is an extension of Surgent's CPA Review course and offers customized study materials to allow users to learn on their own schedules. The app offers study increments of two, five and 10 minutes, offering learning material in the form of videos, flashcards and other references, along with options to select “Still Learning” or “Got It” for each piece of subject matter.

The Study Companion app covers all four sections of the CPA Exam and syncs with the Surgent desktop app.

“Preparing for accounting and finance exams demands a great deal of effort, but regularly setting aside hours for study isn’t always feasible,” said Elizabeth Kolar, executive vice president of Surgent, in a statement. “Many of our learners have to hold down a job and fulfill other obligations in addition to prepping for exams. Our new app is based on data that shows short bursts of study are effective for retaining information. Now, even if students can only commit to minutes at a time, they can keep progressing toward exam readiness.”

The app also utilizes Surgent's ReadyScore product, which aims to inform users if they are ready to pass the CPA Exam prior to sitting for it.

“Surgent educates professionals throughout every stage of their career in accounting or finance,” added Kolar. “Everyone’s journey in our field starts with effective certification exam preparation and our Surgent Study Companion is designed to set learners up for success now and well into the future.”

Users can download the Study Companion app on the Apple App Store here and the Google Play store here.
