SAGE UNVEILS WAREHOUSE AUTOMATION MODULEBusiness software developer Sage Software unveiled a new Warehouse Automation module for its Sage MAS 500 enterprise resource planning software.

Intended for distribution companies that use wireless networking equipment, the Warehouse Automation module transfers the data gathered from handheld barcode scanners and radio frequency communication devices and enters the information into the Sage MAS 500 ERP system.

The new solution automates such warehouse tasks as receipt of goods, warehouse transfers, bin transfers, sales returns, and packing and shipping. Integration with MAS 500 allows for real-time updates and validation of data. In the event that the Sage MAS 500 Server or the RF connection is temporarily lost, users can work offline and the information captured by the handheld device can be uploaded when the connection is re-established.

Handheld devices supported by the Warehouse Automation module include the Intermec CN2 Series, the Intermec 700 Series, and the Intermec CK60 Series, plus any handheld device utilizing the Microsoft CE.Net or Windows Mobile 2003/2005 operating systems.

Also available with the release of Warehouse Automation is the Barcode LabelXpert Designer module for creating barcode labels for inventory items like packaging cartons, warehouse shelves or warehouse bins. The LabelXpert works with both laser and thermal printers, and includes modifiable and customizable label templates. LabelXpert is also available as a stand-alone product.

Touting GoFileRoom's scanning, indexing and bar-coding features, vice president of business development Joe Harpaz said that firms using the technology can also automate the creation of bookmarked PDF files, using barcode sheets.

"With TaxSort, we are taking the next step and automating document identification," he said. "Imagine walking up to your scanner, dropping in a client's source documents and out pops an organized, bookmarked PDF, with each document type, such as W-2 or K-1, identified and in the correct order. This is what TaxSort does."
