The Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters plans to introduce iPhone and iPad apps that will provide a front-end to the companys Checkpoint Learning software.
The company has been building features for Checkpoint Learning tying together its various training, tax and accounting research, and course tracking products, with material from PPC, MicroMash and PASS Online. Much of the material now includes video and audio.
The company plans to roll out the iPhone and iPad apps in October for mobile users, according to Kenneth Koskay, senior vice president and general manager of certification. A BlackBerry application will be the next mobile interface to be released. Other mobile interfaces, such as for Google Android phones, may follow.
You can take CPE on your iPhone or iPad, said Koskay. It will take you to where you left off on the course.
Thomson Reuters Tax & Accounting CEO Roy Martin said the company delivered 4.1 million hours of continuing professional education last year. The company has been devoting its efforts to taking Checkpoint learning global. We registered trademarks in 70 countries, said Martin. We think it will be a real home run.
Mark Schlageter, president of business compliance and knowledge solutions, said the company already has a broad user base in some countries outside the U.S., particularly the U.K. and Australia. The content is localized and translated for the various international markets.
Features in Checkpoint Learning include tracking of CPE requirements across a firm and the ability to e-mail users who are falling behind on their CPE coursework. The software is able to track courses from not only Thomson Reuters but outside providers as well.
