TRAC Updates Tax Statistics Tool

Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse has updated its Taxpayer Returns online tool with data through filing year 2014.

TRAC's app allows users to research income trends going back to 1991, based on based on authoritative Internal Revenue Service data culled from federal income tax returns. The tool allows users to examine the kinds of income flowing to taxpayers in every state and the more than 3,000 counties in the United States.

Users can research a wide range of topics with the free tool, including average wages and salaries, interest income, dividend received, exemptions claimed, and adjusted gross income on a county, state or nationwide basis.

For example, the tool found that the average interest income of $658 reported in 2014 is the lowest such amount in the past 24 years. Also, in 2014, Connecticut ranked once again as the state with the highest average wages and salaries, as it has every single year since 1991.
