U.S. Commercial Spending Estimated at $20.3 Trillion in 2008

San Francisco - U.S. commercial spending rose to $20.3trillion will small and midsized businesses accounting for nearly $9 trillionof that figure, according to the annual Commercial Consumption ExpenditureIndex from financial services concern Visa Inc.

The annual report provides standardized tracking ofbusiness and government spending globally and is recognized as an industrybenchmark for measuring commercial spending.

Meanwhile commercial spending for large businesses topped$10 trillion in 2008.

Top spending categories for businesses were rawmaterials, capital equipment, gasoline and telecommunicatons services.
