'#AuditorProud' hashtag to encourage younger generation on social media Dec. 10

The Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) and auditors representing leading firms across the country announced a social media strategy for Thursday, December 10, highlighting the benefits of an auditing career and the important role auditors play in capital markets.

Using the hashtag #AuditorProud, auditors will tap social media channels - Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter - to share personal stories on why they chose a career in auditing and what they love about their career.

“I am #AuditorProud,” said Deloitte CEO and CAQ governing board chairman Cathy Engelbert, in a statement. “I am excited about how the audit profession has embraced innovation – the use of data analytics, artificial intelligence and automation – and transformed the audit into a powerful lens that makes visible the inner workings of a business. By sharing our stories on social media today, we will inform students and others about what it truly means to be an auditor and the many exciting and unique opportunities a career in the accounting and auditing profession holds.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics 2014-2015 Occupational Outlook handbook states that employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow 13 % to 2022; an additional 166,700 jobs.

“Auditors play an indispensable role in our capital markets system,” stated CAQ executive director Cindy Fornelli. “By providing assurance on important financial information, auditors instill trust and confidence that inform investors’ decisions. Attracting the best and brightest to the auditing profession benefits all with an interest in audit quality and high-functioning capital markets.”

The hashtag will run from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday. For a live feed on Twitter, head here.
