Firm aims for 10M steps as part of healthy 'Charity Step Challenge'

Morganton, N.C., firm Smith Miller and Buff is taking steps (literally) to promote healthier professionals and contribute to a worthy cause this tax season, according to The News-Herald.

With their Charity Step Challenge, Smith, Miller and Buff has provided pedometers to each professional in order to keep track of the number of steps they take on a weekly basis. The firm is aiming for 10,000,000 total steps by April 15 and plans to contribute to charity upon completion.

To encourage walking during work hours, firm partners agreed to pay every employee for up to 15 minutes of walking per day, provided they match the paid time with walking an equal amount on their own time. In less than one month, 17 employees have taken more than 3,000,000 total steps.

The firm named the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust’s Healthy Places NC initiative in Burke County as a possible worthy cause to benefit from the Charity Step Challenge.
