IMA Survey Finds Little Impact on Hiring Plans from Affordable Care Act

Senior financial professionals polled by the Institute of Management Accountants reported little impact on their hiring plans as a result of the Affordable Care Act.

In the survey, 83 percent of the respondents reported little or no impact on their expected hiring plans from the ACA, while 90 percent said the health care reform law would have little or no impact on their business plans.

However, 57 percent of the survey respondents anticipate some negative effect on their company’s profitability, with 31 percent predicting a decrease of no more than 2 percent of profits.

The biggest impact is seen among small and midsize businesses, with 19 percent expecting some decrease in employees. However, companies that are not subject to the provisions of the ACA were more pessimistic about its impact than businesses that are subject to the legislation.
