Latest J.K. Lasser Tax Guide Released

John Wiley & Sons has released the latest version of J.K. Lasser’s venerable tax guide, a reference book that has assisted millions of taxpayers, not to mention tax preparers.

“J.K. Lasser’s Your Income Tax 2013: For Preparing Your 2012 Tax Return” ranges across a voluminous 784 pages, but the advice is still easy to follow and well organized. The reference guide has been around for 75 years, according to its publisher, and sold over 39 million copies.

The book is written by a team of tax specialists from the J.K. Lasser Institute, but even they can’t predict what’s going to happen with the looming fiscal cliff and the alternative minimum tax, which still hasn’t been patched yet for this year. It’s a good thing, then, that the publishers are offering access to bonus materials through Lasser’s Web site, jklasser.com. Readers also get links to the latest tax forms from the IRS, up-to-the-minute tax law changes, small business help, and more.

The guide contains over 2,500 tax planning tips and strategies that both taxpayers and tax professionals can use, along with coverage of the past year’s tax law changes.

The book includes hundreds of updated examples, practical advice and real-world examples, along with tax filing tips and instructions to help prepare returns. A quick reference section highlights what’s new for 2012 and there’s a topic index for identifying money-saving tax deductions for your clients.

The book also offers instruction for taxpayers who use their own tax prep software or turn to their CPAs to file their taxes.
