OMG, They're Texting!

"OMG! City teachers alarmed as IM speak sneaks into students' writing."

The cover of amNew York, a local tabloid shouted at me and I couldn't help but pick it up to read more.
The story quotes a seventh-grade teacher who says students actually answer "IDK" when she asks them questions and that they write "OMG" in their essays.

"It's hard for kids to differentiate between essay language, IM language and proper oral speech between friends and adults," the teacher said.

The principal of another school said that some of his students who are applying to college felt 100 words were enough for a 300-word essay.
