By Michael Cohn

The Internal Revenue Service said Thursday that some taxpayers who are trying to e-file from Puerto Rico are unable to do so.

In an email to tax professions, the IRS said it has determined that certain taxpayers who are attempting to file a Form 1040 tax return using an address in Puerto Rico are currently unable to electronically file. “These taxpayers with U.S Form W-2 income include federal employees and military, who live in Puerto Rico,” the IRS noted.

The IRS said the problem would be fixed on Sunday, Feb. 17, when it performs maintenance on its computer systems.

The issue has not affected filers who are bona fide residents of Puerto Rico who e-filed using Form 1040PR or Form 1040-SS, the IRS noted.
