Late Start to Season Impacts TurboTax Sales

While its figures for the overall season were flat, Intuit reported today that from January 30 through March 16, sales of TurboTax Online units increased 29 percent versus the comparable prior-year period, and that total TurboTax federal units were up 26 percent in the same span.

Intuit saw declines in desktop and Free File Alliance units. The late start to tax season also caused the total number of TurboTax federal units for the entire season to stay flat with 2012.

IRS data show total returns down 7 percent as of March 15, Dan Maurer, senior vice president and general manager of Intuit’s consumer group, pointed out. “We’re looking forward to a strong end to the season. Millions of Americans still need to file their taxes,” he said.

Intuit also reiterated its full-year revenue growth guidance of 8 to 10 percent for its Consumer Tax Division, and company revenue growth guidance of 10 to 12 percent.
