Tax Season Worries: Late Laws, Late Clients, Late Start

When it comes to next tax season, tax preparers’ biggest concerns all revolve around lateness.

In a survey of 350 accountants who offer tax prep, almost a quarter (24 percent) said that their biggest concern for this tax season was late-changing tax laws. Just over a fifth (20.9 percent) said that their biggest concern was delays in receiving information from clients, and 17.4 percent were primarily concerned about the late start to the season.

Another 12 percent were worried about finding adequate staff to handle the busy season, and 11.7 percent cited finding new clients as their main concern.

The survey, conducted by Accounting Today, also asked if respondents planned to raise their tax prep fees; almost 80 percent said they did, either for all or some of their tax prep services. And almost 60 percent said that they expect to have more tax prep clients this year.
