M&A roundup: UHY, Wheeler and CCGCPAS expand

UHY adds LWBJ and TGM Group; Wheeler Accountants merges in Just, Gurr & Associates; and Capital Care Group Certified Public Accountants combines with Wallace & Associates.

IOWA AND MARYLAND: UHY adds LWBJ and TGM Group

Details: UHY Advisors, a Top 50 Firm based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, announced combinations Thursday with two different firms: LWBJ, with offices in Des Moines and Ames, Iowa; and TGM Group LLC, based in Salisbury, Maryland, effective Jan. 2022.

The deal will expand UHY into both Iowa and Maryland, while adding three offices. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed, but LWBJ earned $9 million in annual revenue, while TGM earned $4 million in revenue. UHY’s annual revenue is $200 million. The firm ranked No. 31 on Accounting Today’s 2021 list of the Top 100 Firms.

LWBJ offers audit, accounting, tax, consulting, and mergers and acquisitions services. It has 65 team members, 10 of whom will be joining UHY as partners. They will become part of UHY’s growing Midwest region, which has 200 professionals in St. Louis, Kansas City and Houston.

TGM will join UHY’s Mid-Atlantic region based in Columbia, Maryland. TGM has 35 professionals, five of whom will be joining UHY as partners. The firm specializes in construction, government and not-for-profit clients.

UHY has 25 offices and more than 1,200 team members. UHY expanded into Kansas City, Missouri, in November by merging in House Park Dobratz Wiebler. Last February, it expanded its presence in Ann Arbor, Michigan, by adding Pietrasiuk, Kelley & Kelley. In early 2020, prior to the pandemic, UHY acquired Stewart, Beauvais & Whipple in Port Huron. More mergers for UHY are expected in 2022.

CALIFORNIA: Wheeler Accountants merges in Just, Gurr & Associates

Details: Wheeler Accountants LLP, a firm based in San Jose, California, has added Just, Gurr & Associates, a firm in Campbell, California, effective Jan. 1, 2022.

The deal adds five partners and 10 accounting professionals and support staff to Wheeler, which will now have nine partners and more than 50 total team members. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Annual revenues for Wheeler were approximately $8.5 million and for Just Gurr were about $3.3 million.

Joining Wheeler as partners from JGA are Kevin Just, Michael Gurr, Dahleet Dittmer, Brian Kent and Angela Wamsley.


Wheeler has offices in both San Jose and Watsonville, California. It is a member firm of Accounting Association CPAmerica and ranked No. 52 on the 2021 Silicon Valley Business Journal’s list of the Top 100 local accounting firms. The firm has also been listed multiple times by Accounting Today as a Best Firm to Work For.

JGA specializes in serving real estate and construction industry clients. “Just, Gurr & Associates expertise in the construction and real estate industries will be a huge benefit to Wheeler’s clients,” said Wheeler Accountants managing partner Matt Wheeler in a statement Wednesday. “We are excited about the additional service lines and opportunities this creates for both Wheeler and Just, Gurr & Associates clients and staff.”

FLORIDA: Capital Care Group CPAs combines with Wallace & Associates

Details: Capital Care Group CPAs, a firm based in Naples, Florida, has added Wallace & Associates PA, a firm in Fort Myers.

The two firms combined in December, strengthening CCGCPAS’ position in the Southwest Florida region.

The CGCPAS team includes CPAs Steven Phillips, Cheryl Deavers, Brian Ellegard and Mary E. Lewis-McLaughlin, who provide tax, accounting and financial planning services to clients.

Wallace & Associates specializes in retirement planning, business consulting, investments, litigation support, estates and trusts, and personal financial planning.

“We’re excited to join the CCGCPAS team and be a part of its growing presence in the community,” said Wallace & Associates president and shareholder Gary Wallace in a statement. “Combining our resources will drive the future success of our clients and the firm while elevating the standard of financial services in Southwest Florida.”

Wallace & Associates also helps clients with tax controversies for both federal IRS and state tax issues along with sales and use tax audit representation.
