BKD buys Indianapolis firm Hamernik

BKD CPAs & Advisors has acquired Hamernik LLC, an Indianapolis-based consulting firm that offers restructuring and business advisory services, effective March 1.

The deal adds one partner and two employees to BKD’s existing Indianapolis office and a new practice area for BKD. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. BDK ranked 14th on Accounting Today’s 2021 list of the Top 100 Firms, with $694.88 million in annual revenue. The Springfield, Missouri-based firm has 38 offices, 295 partners and 2,856 employees.

The acquisition comes amid fresh signs of expansion for accounting firms, which have been busy doing M&A deals this year as the economy continues to slowly recover despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“We extend a warm welcome to the newest members of our firm,” said CEO Ted Dickman in a statement Monday. “BKD and Hamernik share a strong commitment to providing Unmatched Client Service, and I am excited to see how Hamernik will help us achieve our goals moving forward.”

Hamernik dates back to 1995 and helps companies with strategic assessments, consultation, and business and management transitions.

“BKD has a great reputation, not only in Indiana but nationally,” said Kevin Hamernik, who will lead BKD’s new national restructuring and special situations practice, in a statement. “We believe this will allow us to deepen and expand what we started at Hamernik, by leveraging BKD’s broad pool of resources, skilled professionals, diverse practice areas and geographic coverage.”

Hamernik will also be part of BKD’s Transaction Advisory Services practice, which is led by managing partner Chris Dalton, at BKD’s Indianapolis office.

“With the addition of Hamernik, BKD will expand our service capabilities related primarily to restructuring, turnaround and performance improvement,” said Dalton in a statement.

Last year, BKD acquired CampbellWilson, a Dallas-based firm that focuses on health care regulatory consulting, and a portion of Grant Thornton’s municipal government audit practice in Texas and Oklahoma.
