Checkpoint Learning Adds Competency Assessments

The Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters has released new Competency Model software for its Checkpoint Learning system that provides self-assessment tools to measure proficiency in the subjects studied by users, along with roadmaps for career development.

The interactive software tool helps professionals in accounting firms, solo practices, and corporate finance, accounting, and tax departments determine their learning goals, developmental plans and career strategies. Checkpoint Learning users can complete a self-assessment to measure their competence proficiencies, identify the gaps in their knowledge and skills, and take related courses from an online library of 120 interactive tax, audit, accounting and other industry courses.

The Checkpoint Learning Competency Model provides four career levels within finance, tax, audit and accounting, at the staff, senior, manager and director levels. Users get the opportunity to identify the competencies they need to reach the next level in their careers or to pursue alternative career paths. The software provides the ability to standardize or customize competencies across a firm or department. It also provides a management review of assessment and learning plans for staff development discussions.

Users get access to Checkpoint Learning’s up-to-date training on industry standards, laws, regulations, risk, compliance and more. They also have the ability to customize training paths through proprietary courses, mentoring and other learning activities

“Our new Competency Model helps corporate executives and firm partners efficiently and effectively manage staff development,” said Thomson Reuters Tax & Accounting senior vice president and general manager of certification Ken Koskay in a statement. “Because the Competency Model is part of our integrated Checkpoint Learning platform, users can also receive legislative news, research a topic, complete courses, and earn continuing professional education credits, saving even more time and effort.”

Checkpoint Learning, the winner of Accounting Today’s 2010 Top New Learning Product, includes the popular education products of Thomson Reuters' MicroMash, PASS Online, Reqwired and PPC brands.
