Edgar Online Brings SEC Data to MSN Money

Edgar Online and Microsoft announced a deal under which Edgar Online will provide financial filings from the Securities and Exchange Commission's Edgar database and other content to Microsoft's MSN Money, while Microsoft will provide advertising around Edgar Online's content.

Edgar Online has tagged the SEC filings in the Extensible Business Reporting Language, the interactive data-tagging technology that the SEC wants companies to begin using for themselves when they file financial reports.

Edgar Online has added XBRL tags to 12,000 public companies. In addition to MSN Money, Edgar Online also provides content to other investor Web sites, such as Yahoo, Google, Forbes, Market Watch, CNN Money and Smart Money.

On MSN Money, users will be able to search for the documents via company name and ticker symbol. A launch is planned for later this year. In March, Microsoft is expected to begin serving contextual, display and video advertising on Edgar Online.
