Averett Warmus Durkee announced that the not-for-profit organization Opportunity, Community, Ability presented the first “Sandi Breitenstein Volunteer of the Year Award” in honor of Sandi Breitenstein. Breitenstein was a shareholder of the firm until she passed away earlier this year. The award was presented during the organization’s annual “Last Day of Freedom” fundraiser.

Sponsel CPA Group has renewed its lease at Capital Center North Tower, and is currently undergoing an expansion and renovation to its office space. The company will increase its square footage from 11,000 to 16,500 square feet, or 50 percent. When work is completed in September, Sponsel CPA Group will occupy most of the fourth floor of the building. The firm was recognized as one of the fastest-growing accounting companies in the country by Inside Public Accounting in 2013.
A survey of more than 240,000 business and engineering students from 12 of the world’s largest economies named Grant Thornton International Ltd as one of the 50 'World’s most attractive global employers.’ The survey was conducted as part of the Universum Annual Student Survey.

New Jersey-based CPA Firm MSPC employees gathered at the Cranford Office for a day of laughter, bonding, and giving back. Charity is an integral part of the corporate culture and as such, employees volunteered to dunk or be dunked in an effort to raise money for charity during the firm’s annual picnic. Dunk tank donations reached a total of $756.00 and with MSPC matching the funds a total of $1,512.00 was donated to The Wounded Warrior Project.

The annual Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession summer program for public-and-private high school students begins this weekend. COAP is a free five-day summer program for New York high school students as part of the New York State Society of CPA’s Foundation for Accounting Education’s college readiness program that introduces youth specifically minority groups who are historically underrepresented in the CPA profession to the accounting profession. Although the program targets high school juniors, exceptions are occasionally made for an outstanding senior or sophomore.

More than 800 CPAs and their colleagues participated in Pennsylvania’s inaugural CPA Week of Service, coordinated by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. PwC US has been awarded a government contract to aid in the mission of the US Agency for International Development to support the advancement of global health. Under the agreement, PwC will provide technical assistance to countries' health systems and supply chains to improve the long-term availability of health commodities as part of its Global Health Supply Chain Program.
