Members of the Georgia Society of CPAs from across the state recently met at the Georgia State Capital in honor of 2012 CPA Day at the Gold Dome. They heard from Secretary of State Brian Kemp, as well as three CPA legislators.

 

NEW YORK

KPMG LLP and golf champion Phil Mickelson have joined together to launch "Blue for Books," a nationwide charitable initiative designed to put thousands of books into the hands of children in need, through the sale of KPMG blue golf hats like the KPMG hat that Mickelson wears on tour. Mickelson wore the new KPMG blue hat for the first time during the Shell Houston Open, which began March 27. The hats are available to the public here for $29.95 each, with 100 percent of the net proceeds from each sale going to First Book for the purchase of three new books for children of low-income families. To launch Blue for Books, KPMG provided 1,500 new books to the YMCA's Willow Creek Center. The firm has also signed a global sponsorship agreement with LPGA champion Stacy Lewis, and will be named 2012 Straight for Equality in the Workplace honoree by PFLAG National at the Fourth Annual Straight for Equality Awards Gala on April 2. The Straight for Equality in the Workplace Award acknowledges an organization with a demonstrated commitment to achieving equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans-gendered people in the workplace. Finally, it has formed an alliance with technology business management solution provider and Apptio. ... Firms in Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Uruguay have signed on to become part of the Alliance of Global Affiliates of tax and business advisory firm WTP Advisors. ... PwC has been named a "Leader" in business consulting services in the worldwide, Americas, and Europe, Middle East and Africa markets, according to the 2012 IDC MarketScape reports. It is also considered a "Major Player" in the Asia-Pacific market. ... Anchin, Block & Anchin LLP, New York City, has joined worldwide firm association BKR International.

 

OHIO

Cassady Schiller, Cincinnati, has joined international firm association IGAF Polaris, the third largest association of independent accounting firms in the world.

 

PENNSYLVANIA

HBK Sorce Financial, Erie, has changed its name to HBKS Wealth Advisors. The firm was formed by the 2001 merger of The Sorce Financial Group with accounting firm Hill, Barth & King.
