IRS e-File System Open to Business Tax Filers

The Internal Revenue Service said Monday that its electronic filing system is now open for business tax returns.

In an email to tax professionals, the IRS said it has successfully completed the annual cutover activities for its Modernized e-File, or MeF, system, and can now accept tax year 2011, 2010 and 2009 business-related tax returns.

The MeF system opened for production at 9:00 am, Eastern Time on Jan. 9, 2012.

However, due to end-of-year maintenance, the production system is not available until 9:00 am, Eastern Time on Jan. 17, 2012 for e-filing of individual tax returns.

The IRS advised tax professionals to monitor the MeF Status Page for important system updates.
