Tax prep, bookkeeping and payroll services company and franchiser ATAX recently announced plans to double its U.S. presence over the next 20 months.

The two-year plan aims to have over 100 units open and in development by the end of 2016. The company already has a number of new openings slated for 2015.

“ATAX is bucking the trends in our tax preparation and accounting services category. We are in an extraordinary growth phase as others are contracting,” said founder Rafael Alvarez, who recently received the 2015 International Franchise Association’s Ronald E. Harrison Award for his contributions to minorities within the ATAX system.

The company currently has 40 locations in seven states, with its core in the Mid-Atlantic region; its growth strategy calls for expanding into the Southeast, Midwest, New England and West Coast.

Alvarez founded ATAX in 1986 in with two locations New York City.
