Virginia firm Wall, Einhorn & Chernitzer (WEC) is currently holding their first-ever Spirit Week to boost morale during the thick of tax season.

To facilitate the busiest time of the year, Spirit Week events included a Pajama Day last Saturday, “punny” goodie bags for staff, and a Pi Day celebration complete with pizzas and pies. A BBQ lunch, a seminar on healthy eating, and a St. Patrick’s Day “Best Dressed in Green” contest will round out the week.

The firm also provides in-house massages twice a week during tax season, hosts semi-regular happy hours, a mentor program, and flexible hours/scheduling, and shortened summer work weeks to promote a better work-life balance.

"The stress of the March 15 deadline is not limited to just deadline day, nor does deadline day mark the end of busy season, so a Spirit Week seemed like a perfect fit," said Sarah Taylor, WEC employee engagement and recruiting manager. "What makes WEC Spirit Week exceptional is that it’s really a compilation of great ideas from a number of our employees that had been mentioned in passing. We decided to use the ideas of our own employees and combine those with a few more creative activities and treats to keep folks motivated leading up to the deadline, celebrate their work on the actual deadline, and encourage sustained momentum following the deadline to ensure we finish out the rest of busy season on high note."

"Our efforts have certainly paid off – we’ve seen great participation and the office is abuzz with positive feedback about Spirit Week," she added. "It’s our hope that by showing our team how much their ideas and work are valued, the employee engagement benefits of Spirit Week will extend far beyond the week itself.”
