The AICPA, along with Junior Achievement USA, announced on Thursday the launch of a new online resource: "Accounting Career Guide." Hosted by Junior Achievement's JA My Way, the Guide combines Junior Achievement content with resources from AICPA's "Start Here. Go Places" educational campaign to cover the various career paths available to young people in the accounting and CPA profession.

The Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) announced on Thursday the winners of the Society's annual Excel Awards, recognizing young CPAs and their notable achievement on the 2015 CPA Exam. Established in 1984 by the ICPAS Board of Directors, the Excel Awards are presented each year to new CPAs for outstanding performance on the Uniform CPA Examination.

St. Marys University, Texas announced this week that the school has received a $750,000 gift from the Elizabeth Huth Coates Charitable Foundation to fund the newly-minted Ed Boyle Accounting Professorship. The donation will be exclusively devoted to recruiting or retaining a full-time, tenured faculty member who will "promote the study of accounting principles, business knowledge and more, at a time when accounting professors are in high demand," per a school statement.

According to a recent Accountemps survey, 61 percent of interviewed CFOs said that they believe the most productive time for conducting hiring interviews is between 9 and 11 a.m. The survey also found that the very first minutes of a job interview can are the most important. Some 60 percent of polled CFOs said they form their opinion of a candidate within the first 15 minutes of their meeting.

Thirty students from West Hartfords Hall High School, Conard High School and Kingswood-Oxford will be exploring various career opportunities at local businesses during the 3rd Annual JA Career Walk, set for May 11. Founded by BlumShapiro and Junior Achievement of Southwest New England in 2014, the JA Career Walk looks to prepare students on choosing their career paths by giving them a better understanding of the job opportunities in their local community.
