The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) donated $10,000 to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum during its annual International Conference in Manhattan. Josh Cherwin, director of Institutional Advancement for the Memorial and Museum, accepted the donation from IA International Conference co-chairs Nick DiMola and Paul Flora.

York University in Toronto announced on Tuesday that their School of Continuing Studies will start offering post-graduate accounting certificates this September, approved by the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Ontario. The courses look to further prepare students to thrive in the accounting profession, as well as gaining an advantage in applying to the Schulich School of Business' Masters of Accounting program.

The RI Society of CPAS (RISCPA) announced on Monday that they will host their 25th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, July 25th at the Warwick Country Club. Over 140 golfers will be playing for the Community Preparatory School - an independent school in South Providence where over 96% of students receive substantial financial aid.

Today at NAF Next 2016 - NAF’s annual professional development conference - the AICPA and NAF announced the launch of a new high school prep program aimed at increasing and diversifying the pipeline of students entering the accounting profession. Dubbed the AICPA/NAF Recognition Program, the initiative will launch nationwide this Fall in 209 Academies of Finance in 117 school districts across 32 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Deloitte announced on Monday that a team of undergrad and graduate accounting students representing Louisiana State University (LSU) placed first in the Deloitte Foundation's 21st annual National Student Case Study Seminar. The Deloitte Foundation awarded each of the five winning LSU team members a $2,000 scholarship and a $10,000 award towards LSU's accounting program.

The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) announced on Thursday that the University will host its 2016 Summer Institute in Taxation July 18-29, at The Westin New York in Times Square. The two-week Institute will feature national and international tax experts leading in-depth sessions ranging from state and local taxation, partnerships, consolidated returns, trusts and estates, wealth planning, and international taxation.

Terry Ramm, 63, of Lincoln, UK, recently joined 2000 other students - many of them younger - at accounting-centered online college Ideal Schools in order to begin a second career in the profession, according to a statement from the school.

Fortune Magazine recently unveiled their first-ever list of the 50 Best Workplaces for College Grads. Fortune "looked at companies with a high volume of job growth as well as impressive recruiting and hiring numbers for new grads" in determining their ranking.

John Sharbaugh, executive director and CEO of the Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA) and one of Accounting Today’s 100 Most Influential People, was recently announced as a 2015-2016 honorary member of the Society. The award is presented to those eligible not for regular TSCPA membership, but have nonetheless distinguished themselves within the profession on a statewide level.

The National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) announced on Thursday that Steven Harris, partner-in-charge of RubinBrown’s Entrepreneurial Services Group, was named the new chairman of their Board of Directors. Effective July 1, 2016, Harris will serve a two-year term.

Dubbed the “RyanSHARES” day, the firm's professionals will spend a full day volunteering in their respective local communities.

The California Society of CPAs (CalCPA) recently announced that they have awarded Grimbleby Coleman CPAs, of Modesto, the Society's 2016 Public Service Award for Firms. CalCPA presents the award each year to recognize a California firm for its philanthropic contributions to the local, state or national level.

Deloitte recently announced that their firm was recognized as part of the Civic 50, a Points of Light initiative that "honors the 50 most community-minded companies in the nation each year as determined by an annual survey," per the organization's website.

A number of tax and accounting firms were named to Fortune's 2nd annual "100 Best Workplaces for Millennials." The ranking was based on more than 88,000 millennials working for over 600 companies that have been certified as a "Great Place to Work."

The Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) and the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois recently announced the recipients of their yearly academic scholarships for accounting students across the state. Students earning scholarships are set to complete their accounting studies and pursue the CPA licensure.
