App of the Week: Wolfram Alpha

For when Siri just isn’t enough, the Wolfram Alpha app offers a large computational knowledge engine covering a wide array of topics in satisfying statistical detail.

Siri uses the Wolfram Alpha database in part to fulfill her digital assistant duties, but direct access to Wolfram provides a deeper dive into any questions you can dream up—ranging from academic to cultural to nutritional. Wolfram can solve complex math problems or find the answer to that nagging trivia question by accessing thousands of domains, using its collection of algorithms and data to compute and generate reports.

The supercalculator once valued its knowledge engine high enough to charge customers $50 for the app, but lowered the price to $3 a few years ago, giving most everyone access to instant-expertise.

Wolfram Alpha is available for iOS and Android
